Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus. It was 2014, and piglets all over the country were dying. Everyone was talking about how pork prices were going to skyrocket thanks to the shortage, but I had another thought: if pork prices were going to rise, didn’t that mean farmers had a windfall coming their way? It took me over an hour to convince my editor that the story had legs, but she finally relented and we had a story.
I look at the topics everyone is talking about and try to find the stories that haven’t been told yet. I look for stories that allow me to share the lives of everyday people who wouldn’t otherwise have a chance to be heard. I look to use my skills as a multimedia journalist to transport people to somewhere else: another place, another perspective, another point of view.
A little bit more about me: I’m a proud Minnesotan and a long-suffering Minnesota sports fan. I love books, films and podcasts. I can quote almost every episode of The West Wing.
